Alsothe narrator of OUR WATERMELON; the voice of A Guide for Everyone
A 1950s classroom-filmstrip voice, bright and absolutely sure of everything, explaining to a blindfolded species how to check a picture nobody may see; she signs off, and a last card says We are enjoying ourselves.
She is the sky age's teacher: the only voice after the turn that explains anything, and she explains it calmly and correctly, in the tone of a school filmstrip about dental hygiene. Every one of us has a part. We have agreed not to look. Light is never created by a surface. Fifty-three seeds, some say fifty-four. She never appears; she is a voice over nineteen gouache slides in a projector gate, and she is the first to say, without irony, that humanity is happy.
