A broken, dog-sized survey walker with a lamp on a stalk like an anglerfish's lure, which Noor dragged into her tunnel as a night light; as her helmet lamp finds it, its stalk turns toward her, though it cannot move. Never explained, by design.
FINCH is Episode 2's one unexplained mercy. Every other machine on the base obeys a stamp, a roster or a step clock; FINCH is broken, belongs to nobody's plan, and lives three metres down in a tunnel that is on no sheet. When Noor comes down after the window cracks, its lamp turns to her. The film never says how, and the crew wrote that it should not be possible.
