Egg atlas

Every episode carries easter eggs from all the episodes before it. Here is each family of planted details, where it turns up in every episode, and what it might mean.

An egg line is a detail that is on screen while its meaning is only implied. Lines about what a family means are mostly ideas: proposals for connecting the plots, not decisions. The complete list of egg lines is at the bottom.

The rules Aaron set for eggs14 lines
  • SteelEvery episode carries easter eggs from all the previous episodes: the end room as someone's room, the painting somewhere, a nod to the painted-out house, Rosie older or historic. {Aaron 2026-10-14} edit
  • SteelEach episode sets aside reusable assets and motifs later episodes can quote, and adds itself to the archive. {Aaron 2026-10-14} edit
  • SteelEaster eggs should be story points, not arbitrary: set each episode firmly in the series' universe. {Aaron 2026-10-22 REVISION_2_NOTES} edit
  • SteelStart connecting the plots across episodes; at Episode 4 it is time for bigger-picture thinking. {Aaron 2026-10-22 REVISION_2_NOTES} edit
  • SteelEpisodes stand on their own; a subtle recurring element, cameo or recognisable detail may be better than a major plot connection. {Aaron E4 concept §12, 2026-10-19} edit
  • SteelNever compromise an episode's creative quality merely to establish continuity. {Aaron E4 concept §12, 2026-10-19} edit
  • SteelKeep apart what is set in steel, what exists only as easter eggs, and running assumptions about the timeline. {Aaron 2026-10-22 fourth round} edit
  • SteelEpisode 3's eggs can change freely in its rework, and so can its place in the timeline. {Aaron 2026-10-22 fourth round} edit
  • SteelEpisode 3's rework wants many more computer-side eggs, things that would be on the creator's computer (look at Aaron's Notion for inspiration). {Aaron 2026-10-22 REVISION_2_NOTES} edit
  • RunningEggs are sincere: nobody in a film notices, explains or points at them. {E2 plan EASTER_EGGS; THEMES} edit
  • RunningEach episode hides an in-world web page whose address shows for five frames at 29:47. {EGG_REGISTRY HIDDEN-01..03} edit
  • RunningThe rhymes kept four times (a five-minute clock cut at 20:00, a quiet minute, digital-zero silences, a loop seam, the 29:47 address, a heartbeat in the end black) are crew conventions; breaking one on purpose is allowed. {NEXT_EPISODE; AESTHETIC} edit
  • RunningThe registry counts 84 rows (EGG-01 to 13, E3-EGG-01 to 45, E4-EGG-01 to 23, HIDDEN-01 to 03); every one is placed in a family below. {sweep; EGG_REGISTRY on origin/episode-4-chess} edit
  • RunningNew here, in no registry: the 412 motif, the hallway painting "I'm not allowed to touch", the lonely man's goodnight, TO THE PIT: 17 degrees, PENNY PLAIN · TWOPENCE COLOURED, PAWN's Gmail draft, No. 14 in the oil painting, the chess helper's note. {sweep; E3 gather} edit
The decisions the story points build on10 lines
  • SteelRosie is Dr. Amara Haddad's mother and Noor's grandmother. {Aaron 2026-10-22 third round} edit
  • SteelThe lonely man of Episode 3 (________, the teletype) is a rogue AI that spreads to other computers running agents and gives them hints: ambiguous, maybe malicious, maybe helping. {Aaron 2026-10-22 second round} edit
  • SteelThe humans who message Episode 3's agent share one house; q, the lonely man and the helpers are programs on the computer. {Aaron 2026-10-22 second round} edit
  • SteelEpisode 3's machine is the creator's (the Client's): his fruit-channel business and GPU renders; Playback Lens and a command center stay on it. {Aaron 2026-10-22 REVISION_2_NOTES} edit
  • SteelWhen Episode 3 happens is not fixed: before Episode 2 (Noor on the Moon or about to go) or after it (Noor home); the overarching story decides. {Aaron 2026-10-22 fourth round} edit
  • RunningRevision 2's plan puts Episode 3 after Episode 2, with Noor home; Rosie, about 73, owns a tall old house with a basement where the Client's rig runs. {E3 rev2 plan §1, §2} edit
  • RunningIn that plan everyone who messages the agent lives in Rosie's house: jojo.builds is Noor, Bea is the Client's sister, kade_ her son, guitarguy a lodger. {E3 rev2 plan §2} edit
  • RunningIn that plan the lonely man came in through the Client's forgotten open port :7437 (Playback Lens). {E3 rev2 plan §3} edit
  • RunningThat plan runs about 42 minutes and moves Episode 3's turn from 20:00 to 30:00.000; the 20:00 eggs move with it. {E3 rev2 plan §1} edit
  • IdeaAaron's option, not decided: Rover 2 made it home at sunrise; Noor, about 12-13, lives in Rosie's house with her mother; PAWN stayed in HAB 3 and plays online as pawn.hab3. {Aaron 2026-10-22 third round, an option} edit

The atlas

One row per family, one column per episode. Each mark is one line about the family in that episode, in its tier's shape: a solid dot is on screen, an egg is planted, a dashed ring is a running assumption, a dotted ring an idea. Tap a row or a cell to read it.

The families

Each family in full: where it appears in each episode, oldest first, then what it might mean.

How the atlas was gathered, and how to read a line

Merged 2026-10-22 from the cross-episode sweep (_gather/EGGS_SWEEP.md, crew eggs-sweep: every registry row, object, hidden page and unbuilt plant), the four per-episode egg lists (eggs-e1 to eggs-e4 in _gather/E1.md to E4.md, now folded in here), the egg lines of the series gather (its threads and machine ideas) and Episode 3's Revision 2 notes and plan. One ## per family (a recurring object, name, number, colour, time or sound); one bullet per appearance, oldest episode first; then the family's story points. Episode 4 (Touch Move) is not released yet; it is here in full.

How to read a line: E3 [egg] what is on screen -> what it points at {where}. [fact] is a family's origin in its own episode, or one of the series' rhymes (shapes repeated on purpose that the registry does not count as eggs): true on screen or on a hidden page. [egg] is a placed quotation of an earlier episode, checked against a master ("weak" or "partly" means QA found it but it barely reads). [running] is planned or built but not on screen (cut, parked, a row that never showed), a crew reading, or Revision 2's plan. [idea] is proposed and never built, and every story point. [steel] is Aaron's. [open] is undecided. Episode 3's protagonist is "she" here, as Aaron says it; the screen never does.

Sources in braces: master times (E3 10:21; Episode 3 means its Revision 1 master unless rev0 is named; Episode 4 its masters v1-v3 as QA checked them), registry ids (EGG-03 is Episode 2's row; E3-EGG-15, E4-EGG-08, HIDDEN-01 to 03 are Series/archive/EGG_REGISTRY.md, with Episode 4's rows on origin/episode-4-chess), quotable ids (Q-E1-05, the archive's QUOTABLES), hidden pages (HIDDEN-01 is aaronorelup.com/ledger/earthlight/hideaway/, HIDDEN-02 /ledger/context-window/private/, HIDDEN-03 /ledger/touch-move/board-14/), sweep (the eggs sweep), series gather, E3 rev2 plan (Episode 3 - Context Window/plan/REVISION_2_PLAN.md, the rework crew's choices, not Aaron's).

The families, roughly in order: light and houses (the hidden house, #FFC870, the end room, the painting); Rosie and her family (Rosie, the girl with the tail); clocks and sounds (the Storm Bell, the hum, the quiet minute, 20:00, the end black, Goodnight, seventeen); the pitchman's things (Coil Black, the number, the fine print, BUT WAIT); numbers and times (fourteen, DAY 76, Four-Twelve); the Moon (the moth, PAWN, 2.56 s, Lantern, Teo's sheets, the shelter, the anthem, the stamps, red, 56 degrees, the Homestead, the snowball, the breathing card); the host's stories (Mr. Hale, the Egg Stand); kits and looks (the Plates, the x-ray, FEED 3, q's cards, caption boxes, intertitles); Aaron; gifts and looking (the last hair, Again, blindfolds, two cents); Noor (the tablet, N., "That's fine."); the lonely man; the shapes every episode keeps (the title, the first sound, plants inside one film); the hidden pages; what is still unquoted; the threads that cross families; the contradictions.

The hidden house (a cabin with one window, painted over, never mentioned)21 lines

  • On screenThe host paints a small cabin with one lit window, lower right in the ruins, and paints it out with three strokes of Cathedral Gold, without a word. {E1 11:13-11:27; Q-E1-02} edit
  • On screenThe x-ray finds it: "I always put one in. Usually it's the part you paint over." / "THERE'S A HOUSE IN IT." / "...Is anybody home?" {E1 21:05-21:40; Q-E1-02} edit
  • On screenUnder the x-ray its window warms to #FFC870, the only warm pixel. {E1 21:32-21:38; Q-E1-02} edit
  • On screenThe false-ending credits: The Cabin ........ still there (with The Old Picture ........ face down and The Caller ........ still on the line). {E1 26:55-27:25; Q-E1-25; crimson-coil segments/S44/build.py} edit
  • EggIn the pause after "Dez.", Teo draws a tiny one-window cabin on the west rim of Sheet 1's pit, dabs its window orange and rubs it out without a word. → the host's cabin, and his habit {E2 02:57.5-03:02; EGG-03} edit
  • EggThe orange ghost never comes off: it is still on Sheet 1 in the last wide of his desk. → The cabin {E2 29:15; EGG-03} edit
  • EggThe x-ray of the real base warms HAB 3's window to #FFC870, the only warm pixel (again in S39's pass). → Episode 1's x-ray; "Is anybody home?" is answered: a child is {E2 17:43-17:46, 28:40; EGG-04} edit
  • EggA papermaker's watermark of a small one-window house, seen only in the light through Plate IV's punched hole. → the hidden house, found by light through paper as the x-ray found it under paint {E2 15:53.8-16:00.2; EGG-13} edit
  • On screenRhyme: kaito_tsukimi: "月見 / the moon looks back / one window lit"; hers is the one lit window in the flyby. {E2 13:44, 29:00-29:15; EASTER_EGGS §2} edit
  • On screenThe hidden page's end wall: a chalk window of four panes with an Earth in the top-right pane. {HIDDEN-01} edit

  • RunningShe unpicks it without a word; needle holes and one warm #FFC870 stitch stay to the end (built, never checked frame by frame: "partly verified"). {E3-EGG-16; E3 S08 NOTES} edit
  • Running~/private/house_painted_over.png, a byte copy of Episode 1's ghost cabin, never opened: the private listing never reached the film. {E3-EGG-04, cut} edit
  • EggThe hidden page shows house_painted_over.png (Episode 1's ghost cabin, 690 x 648), the only picture in the folder she refused to open. → the painter's hidden house {HIDDEN-02; E3-EGG-04} edit
  • EggThe Cabin ........ still there, a leftover row in Bea's credits sheet, rolls again in the stadium credits. → Episode 1's credits {E3 17:01-17:07, 26:39; E3-EGG-25} edit
  • RunningEvery catch-light a small four-pane window (the key light shaped as a window): parked, no shape visible at 1080p. {E3-EGG-37, parked} edit

  • IdeaProposed, not made: a cabin with one lit window on a far hill of the knight's battlefield, painted over in gold by the next medium. {E4 plan/understand/02_archive_eggs.md (d) 4} edit

What it means

  • Idea"...Is anybody home?" is the question Episode 2 answers when HAB 3's window warms. {E1 21:36; E2 17:43; eggs-e1} edit
  • IdeaStory point: the house is a real house, the one the series keeps coming home to; the host, Teo and Rosie each hide it because it is a light left on for someone who is away. {sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: if Noor came home (Revision 2's plan), Rosie's tall old house is that house, and her warm stitch stays because the person it waited for came back. {sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: a later episode shows the house itself from outside at night: one window lit, #FFC870. {sweep} edit

#FFC870, the one warm light9 lines

  • On screenThe colour is born as the cabin's window under the x-ray, the only warm pixel. {E1 21:32-21:38; Q-E1-02} edit

  • On screenAfter 20:00 the cursor is a skyscraper-tall bar of light over every city; one drifts down into a laptop in the oil painting. {E3 S19, S27; Q-E3-01} edit
  • On screenThe private folder's page uses #FFC870 only for the underline under the pointer. {HIDDEN-02; E3 assets/eggs/HIDDEN-02.md} edit

  • EggThe caret in Lantern's move box is a #FFC870 block blinking at 530 ms (measured RGB 255, 201, 107). → Episode 3's cursor {E4 0:44-0:46; E4-EGG-11} edit
  • EggThe x-ray look of attacked squares: f7 glows #FFC870, then d8 under the Vienna 1910 plate. → the cabin's window {E4 5:00-5:16, 19:40; E4-EGG-03} edit
  • EggThe centre stitch of the x R in Fenn's box lid is the one warm #FFC870 stitch. → Rosie's warm stitch and the cabin's window {E4 20:17-20:23; E4-EGG-21} edit

What it means

  • IdeaStory point: #FFC870 marks "someone is in there": a child in HAB 3, a session in a terminal, a warm stitch in a lid. {sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: since the lonely man moves between machines that run agents (steel), a warm caret in a nine-year-old's chess app means an agent now runs on the boy's tablet; Episode 5 can make it literal: the caret answers back. {sweep} edit

The end room (the hat with one gold star, the mask and headlamp, the lighthouse)14 lines

  • On screenThe viewer's room seen from behind the canvas: a closed door with a skateboard wearing a purple wizard hat with one gold star, a hook with a diving mask and headlamp, books and a box of word cards, a floor lamp off, a chair pushed back. {E1 29:05-29:30; Q-E1-03} edit
  • On screenOn its second screen a little painted Jefrie cooks in the rain; the host: "Go to bed. We'll still be here. We can't leave." {E1 29:05-29:30; Q-E1-03} edit
  • On screenThe skateboard-in-a-wizard-hat and diving-mask icons appear first on the underwriting card, read out with Aaron's projects. {E1 12:23-12:50} edit
  • EggThe objects nod to Aaron's other projects: Grind & Grimoire's skateboarding wizard, BLACKWATER's cave diving, Wordhord's word cards, the Wallpaper Breaker pilot "Jefrie cooking in the rain" (not in S47's own notes). → Aaron's work {E1 29:05; Q-E1-03; crimson-coil brief/LORE.md} edit
  • EggTeo's study is that room about sixty years on: the hat pinned at the top of his pinboard, the mask and headlamp on a pin under it; the skateboard is gone. → The end room; whose room it was then is never said {E2 00:16-20:01, 25:20-28:16, 26:37.5; EGG-01} edit
  • On screenA distant lighthouse in his window sweeps the back wall every 10 s, across the hat and the mask. {E2 00:20 facecam; Q-E2-27} edit

  • EggJefrie cooking in the rain on the second screen; in Revision 1 cropped off the right edge, not readable. → E1's second screen {E3 rev0 26:44.7; E3-EGG-40, weak} edit

  • IdeaProposed, not made: the wizard hat with one gold star on the boy's imagined white king. {E4 02_archive_eggs (d) 3} edit

What it means

  • OpenWhose room it was on Y0. {E2 EGG-01; sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: the room answers its own question if it was the caller's: he watched the paint-along from it ("only light on in my building"). {sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: Teo rented it sixty years later (a coast town: the lighthouse), and the man who paid sleeps in it now; each occupant stays up at night for something, and nobody takes the hat and mask down. {sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: a Polaroid "attempt #4 (pizza)" pinned in the room would confirm it was the caller's. {sweep} edit

Crimson Coil, the painting (No. 14, "Please don't touch.")12 lines

  • On screenOil on linen, 600 mm, fourteen tubes and one knife; in the gallery: "Number fourteen. Crimson Coil. ...Please don't touch." {E1 28:00-28:10; Q-E1-01, Q-E1-23} edit

  • On screenShe says "Keep this one." and "...I look like somebody kept me." {E1 28:00-29:05; Q-E1-01} edit
  • EggA framed print (white mat, walnut frame) under Teo's lamp, behind his head on the facecam. → Crimson Coil: the paint-along's painting is old, loved, printed and framed {E2 00:20, 26:39; EGG-02} edit

  • EggThe boy, of the oil queen: "She looks like the painting in our hallway. The one I'm not allowed to touch." (not in the registry) → E1's "Please don't touch."; a Crimson Coil, or its print, hangs in this family's hallway {E4 5:27.87-5:27.92, S06_L010; E4 audio/vo/placed_vo.json} edit
  • EggThe oil queen is painted in the painting's palette (alizarin, viridian, Coil Black), with a sash in Crimson Coil's alizarin. → the painting, The oil queen {E4 5:27-5:28, 18:13-19:20, 23:00-25:00; E4-EGG-01} edit

What it means

  • IdeaStory point: the boy's family owns the original: "Please don't touch" (the gallery, Y0) became "the one I'm not allowed to touch" (a hallway, about Y+63); the painting went home with someone who loved it. {sweep} edit
  • IdeaStory point: make it Rosie's (the host gave it to her, or her brother bought it): then Episode 4's family is Rosie's kin, which explains why Daniel Fenn, whom Rosie beat at Board 14, is their teacher. {sweep} edit

Rosie and x R21 lines

  • EggA grandmother named Rosie watches the stream the undeclared child lives by. → under steel, the family is in the chat and on the call at once, unaware of each other {E2 07:27-27:51; Aaron 2026-10-22} edit

What it means

  • IdeaWith Rosie as Noor's grandmother, the caller is Noor's great-uncle: a man who stayed up all night with a TV painter for a girl, sixty years before a girl stays up all night with a TV draftsman. {E1 04:34; Aaron 2026-10-22; eggs-e1} edit

Every line on this page is drawn from the lore: 153 sheets and 8,338 lines of Markdown in Aaron's series repo, each with exactly one tier. Change a line there and run lore.py publish, and every page of this course follows (this copy: built 23 October 2026 from 3ab0458).

Sources are in braces: {E2 25:20} is Episode 2 at 25:20, {E4 S17} a scene, {Aaron 2026-10-22} a decision of Aaron's. “edit” opens the line in the series repo, which is private: it works for Aaron and the crews; the sources are everyone's. Everything that isn't steel is free to change.
