Nobody in Episode 1 says the number; it slams in under the pitchman, then sits under his commercial with JEFRIES printed beneath the digits while a cut-out Jefrie picks up the phone. Sixty years later it is the hotline under the Moon homestead's recruitment ad, OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY, and the route of the one call that matters in Episode 2 dials it. In Episode 3 Andy reads it out digit by digit for his pyro guy. Paint, the Moon, fireworks: whoever holds the number is selling something, and somebody is always standing by.
