Alsothe mother; the boy's mother

Never seen: a warm kitchen light, seventeen knuckle thumps on watermelons, a gasp in the dark, one line through the box lid and a shadow in the doorway; she booked the lesson, and her drawings for the city become the boy's blueprint rooks.

The mother is the room around the lesson. For twenty minutes she is a warm light at the top of the board and a sound from the kitchen: someone knocking on watermelons, seventeen times, choosing one. In the dark she brings it to the table and it rolls across the board; the teacher thanks her for taking it away. Her one line reaches the boy through the wooden lid as we fall into the box: "Ten more minutes. Then bed." At the end her shadow stands in the doorway and the kitchen light goes off. Her rolled drawings, white on Prussian blue with orange redlines, are where the boy's rooks come from, and they look exactly like Teo's sheets in Episode 2.
