The plastic rook

E4

Alsothe old rook; the Board-14 rook; the rook that never played

A cheap black plastic rook with a chipped crenel and a 14 sticker, kept among the instructor's wooden pieces since Board 14; in the gods it holds a grey card with the move it never played, Rc2+, and the boy plays ten checks with it and falls asleep with his finger on it.
