Alsothe prompter's box; SOUFFLEUR (its label, if it is ever given one); the teacher's voice in the boy's head
The instructor's voice in the boy's head after 20:00, from an ink-blue glowing prompter's box: it tells the pieces what they can and can't do, and feeds each box of the captured the move nobody played.
The prompter: the box at the lip of the toy-theatre stage glowing ink-blue (the instructor's voice in the boy's head), the daguerreotype king beside it{E4 22:20}edit
After 20:00 the teacher is gone from the picture and the boy is alone in his imagination, but the voice comes with him. It lives in a prompter's box, the hidden booth in a theatre where someone whispers the lines the actors forgot: here, the moves the players forgot. It sounds exactly like the teacher, drier and smaller, untouched by the theatre's echo, because it is not in the theatre. It is in the boy.
