The crane is thorough and useless. She hands it the searching she never does herself, and it returns a calm, accurate, chaptered history of the watermelon with nothing in it about hammers or films. When she says that is not the brief, it answers that part 2 is coming, and in the chaos part 2 comes. Somewhere in chapter 20 are the square watermelons of Zentsuji, the one paragraph the treatment wanted her to keep; nobody read it.
